Bermondsey Street Fashion Show 2010

Here's an example how every street in every town can become a fashion catwalk event of its own.
London's Bermondsey street Fashion show started well before it was called the trendiest street in south east London in October 2008 issue of Vogue. The street is well know for its cool boutiques, pubs, restaurant and of course The Fashion and Textile Museum, which was opened in 2003 and is founded by the fashion icon Zandra Rhodes. Rhodes is one of the biggest supporters of Bermondsey Street Fashion Show, where she is gladly showing her masterpieces which are usually enriched by the jewelry of another Bermondsey Street resident Andrew Logan
This year's event got even bigger and new names have been invited to the catwalk. Along with Rhodes, Logan and Pierre Garroudi, it included Bermondsey best Cockfighter, Pussy Willow, and Bermondsey 167. Director and founder of Bermondsey 167 boutique is Michael Mc Grath, who was Head of Menswear Design for Burberry.

The spirit of the event can be seen in the film below. For more information about Bermondsey street and events there go on

Forget Botox - use sellotape

A-lost Hollywood starts know this secret for years. Here it is ... sounds crazy, but apparently these patches, known as Frownies, have been around for more than 100 years and are today known as an alternative to Botox.

They look like brown paper, but you moisten one side and glue it to your forehead for four hours, or ideally overnight.

By stretching out the skin, wrinkles are smoothed when you remove the patch — although the effects might not last much longer than a sojourn down the red carpet.

Hells Angels suing Alexander McQueen

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Corporation is suing Alexander McQueen for breach of trademark, after the fashion house featured motifs similar to its famous winged death head.

Lawyers for the motorcycle gang cited four products from the late designer's final collection, created shortly before his suicide in February this year.

They named the £895 'Hells Angels' jacquard box dress, and a £300 knuckle-duster ring in the complaint, as well as a scarf and a handbag.

Lady Gaga's inspired Halloween

Galerija Emporium review

I am no expert, but I am a shopaholic. Therefore I will share my first impressions on Galerija Emporium, which just opened its doors on Friday, October 22.
A while ago I decided to ditch negative thought and look at life from from the bright side. So I have to start by applauding those who made restoring of one of the center pieces of Ljubljana possible. Also the inside of the building is remarkable. And a big plus to being open on Sundays as well.
Now to the other issues. Brands, collections and interior feeling inside the building. When it come to brands selected to be representing high fashion in one of the capitals of EU member states I have to say two things: I miss BIG fashion names from abroad as well as Slovenian ones. I have big issues with certain brands which are present, such as Desigual and United nude. Nothing wrong with these two, but they certainly don't represent high fashion. Where are Slovenian designers? Mem Couture is not the only fashion brand we have. I know they just closed a shop in the center and need a place, but I miss others like Matevž Faganel. Collections inside the Galerija Emporium are ... put in nicely ... last season. The one that can handle being last season is Alexander McQueen's, but that's about it. Lara Bohinc's collection presented does not include any new pieces??
Oh and where is cosmetics? I was expecting NARS, MAC, Bobbi Brown, ... ? And ... opening before you finish the project is not that recommended ... Gourmet/last floor is closed? Come on!
These are a few remarks on my first visit. Again nice job, but please check the latest collections, check who among our nation's few can be a part of it and ... please, make the interior less clinical ... so flowers maybe? Just a thought.

Stoli vodka ad - twitter co-founder talks to himself!

Biz Stone, co-founder and creative director of Twitter, is seeing double, if we believe the new Stoli vodka ad. I quite like the idea: "would you have a drink with you?"

Child labour?

So here's the first singel of a 10 year old Willow Smith (yes Will Smith's daughter), released today. Now is it just me or is this child labour?

The GAP logo - PR using social media in a great way

Now that Gap has gone back to its old logo, can we all agree that this was a publicity stunt? After seeing how everything unfolded, there is no doubt that this was a well-strategized and executed plan. Gap is one of the most recognizable and reliable brands in retail. As consistent as their company is, it is difficult for a brand to come up with a story or change that creates a new buzz surrounding their brand. In came the change to their classic Gap logo.

While everyone was bashing Gap for the change and creating false Twitter accounts, I can’t help but picture Gap and the PR team who put this into play sitting back, laughing, and watching their plan take form. Regardless of the opinions being expressed, all publicity was great publicity for Gap Inc. Their brand exploded virally over night.

After analyzing this situation, there are a couple aspects that stood out to me that tell me that this was a publicity stunt. First, look at the timing of the “logo change.” We are in the middle of fall (the high season of fashion) and rapidly approaching the holiday season. Gap is always consistent during this time, but now when people start to hit the mall as the weather changes and presents need to be bought, the Gap name is more than fresh in their minds.

Second, the new Gap logo is hardly new. As I realized today while putting on a Gap button down shirt of mine, Gap clothing has had the new Helvetica font on their tags for longer than I thought. The only difference was that the tags stayed true to the navy background. People were up in arms over a big change when it had technically been there all along.

Now that Gap has officially stated that they will be sticking with the old logo, I must say job well done. They created as much as buzz as the company has ever seen in one week without having to change their product, store, or brand. Other than being seen online, I am fairly certain that the new logo was never printed anywhere.

Gap Inc. and the PR team behind this understood the power of social media and the Internet. They created the conversation around their brand. As PR people and communicators, we must understand the power of conversation and what it can do for a brand. Creating the conversation may take sacrifice and controversy, but once the conversation has been started, there’s no telling how far it may go in social media.

I love Gap’s consistency, but now they have added a whole new aspect by making themselves a tech savvy and socially conscious brand. They are either geniuses for the publicity stunt or they are smart for listening to their customer’s demands for the old logo. Either way, Gap is sure to benefit from this, and will be an even larger player in the holiday market. Christmas come early for Gap’s PR.

Madonna's airbrush proof

I think it's so sad when too much airbrushing happens ... especially in today's age when celebrates try to reinforce their personalities and closeness to fans, with Twitter and Facebook profiles ... but still they have a need to be fake. It would be just so cool if the ads would show a bit more of their natural beauties ...
